Chinese researchers have accelerated a maglev prototype to 800 kilometres per hour in 5.3 seconds on a dedicated one-kilometre test line at the East Lake High-Speed Railway Laboratory in Hubei province.

The experimental vehicle weighs 1,110 kilograms and is not designed to carry passengers.

After reaching the peak speed, the prototype initiated smooth deceleration within roughly 200 metres, and its positioning accuracy at high speed was reported at the millimetre level.
