Japanese composer and conductor Joe Hisaishi received three Guinness World Records certificates in August 2025 for attendance milestones at major venues in the United States and Japan.
The records recognize the highest-selling single run for classical music at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, the most tickets sold by a classical composer during a run at Tokyo Dome, and the longest consecutive run of performances by a classical composer at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
According to Guinness World Records, Hisaishi's three performances at the Hollywood Bowl from July 21 to 23, 2025, conducting the Los Angeles Philharmonic, sold 45,538 tickets.
His "Studio Ghibli Film Concert Tour Final" at the Tokyo Sports Arena on July 16 and 17, 2025, recorded total sales of 133,453 tickets.
At Radio City Music Hall, a roughly 6,000-seat venue, Hisaishi conducted the MasterVoices choir and the Orchestra of St. Luke's for a week-long residency from August 11 to 17, 2025.
During the concerts, scenes from Hayao Miyazaki-directed films such as "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind," "My Neighbor Totoro," "Princess Mononoke," and "Spirited Away" were projected onto three screens.
Hisaishi, 75, whose real name is Mamoru Fujisawa, began his career in contemporary minimalist music before his long collaboration with Miyazaki starting in 1984.
He has also composed for filmmaker Takeshi Kitano, including the Golden Lion-winning film "Hana-bi."
