Russia's high-school team has won the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) for the third consecutive year, according to the Central University press service. The competition took place from August 2 to 7 in Astana, Kazakhstan, and drew 465 students from 105 countries.
The Russian delegation earned seven gold medals and one bronze medal in the team standings. Tenth-grader Artem Gorokhov from St. Petersburg was named the absolute individual winner of the tournament.
China and Poland placed second and third respectively in the team rankings. The final round consisted of two individual stages covering audio processing, robot control in a virtual environment, semantic word search, and work with input data for AI models.
The IOAI result follows a similar performance in July, when Russia's team won the International Olympiad in Cybersecurity for high-school students with two gold, one silver, and one bronze medal.
At the 2025 IOAI held in China, the Russian team collected six gold, one silver, and one bronze medal.
Organizers say the olympiad tasks are designed to test practical skills in current AI techniques rather than theoretical knowledge alone.
The Central University, which coordinates Russia's participation, noted that the consistent results reflect sustained investment in specialized computer-science education for secondary students.
No changes to the competition format or participating countries were announced for the next edition.
